First Nations and the media
Éric Cardinal, former Director of Aboriginal affairs and social acceptability, testified at the Quebec government’s Public Inquiry Commission on relations between Indigenous Peoples and certain public services in Québec on June 7.
While the negative public perception of First Nations has been influenced by what the public reads and sees in the media, it has also been shaped by what isn’t put forward. The public’s incomplete view of First Nations can in fact also be largely explained by the absence of positive pieces, ones that highlight communities’ good qualities and their inspiring stories. NATIONAL’s experts can help create bridges between communities and the media, leading to better media coverage, both quantitatively and qualitatively.
