Building a compelling narrative for NATO DIANA
NATO DIANA needed to make a complex, high-stakes story clear for a NATO Parliamentary Assembly audience. As NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic, DIANA works across 32 Allied nations to connect start-ups, researchers, test centres, military end users, and investors to accelerate the adoption of dual use emerging technologies.
The challenge was not simply explaining what DIANA is, but demonstrating why it matters now. As global threats evolve faster than traditional defence systems can adapt, NATO DIANA needed a compelling narrative that showed how it helps Allies move innovation into real-world operations faster - strengthening resilience and maintaining strategic advantage. The presentation also needed to reinforce the importance of sustained political and financial support by helping parliamentarians clearly understand DIANA’s value, momentum, and long-term role in Allied defence readiness.
NATIONAL was engaged to define DIANA’s positioning and develop a concise, persuasive presentation narrative for parliamentarians and senior stakeholders.
Turning technical complexity into a compelling stakeholder narrative
NATIONAL partnered with NATO DIANA to transform a highly technical and politically complex subject into a clear, engaging story grounded in urgency and impact. We developed a strategic narrative that reframed DIANA not as a standalone program, but as a practical mechanism for accelerating defence innovation across the Alliance.
The presentation simplified interconnected concepts—from accelerator programs and test centres to venture funding and operational adoption—into a focused story about speed, collaboration, and capability development. Messaging emphasized how DIANA reduces barriers between innovators, governments, and military users while helping proven technologies move from concept to deployment more efficiently.
The final presentation balanced strategic clarity with credibility, using real-world examples and a structured narrative arc to connect defence innovation directly to Allied readiness and long-term security outcomes.
Strengthening the case for faster Allied defence innovation
The finished product gave NATO DIANA a sharper, more persuasive narrative for a critical stakeholder audience. By clearly articulating both the operational and strategic value of the program, the presentation helped position DIANA as a credible, scalable model for Allied defence innovation.
The work connected DIANA’s mission to tangible outcomes—faster adoption of emerging technologies, stronger collaboration across Allied nations, and reduced risk in bringing innovation to the field. The resulting narrative equipped NATO leadership with a clearer and more compelling case for continued investment in defence innovation at the speed required by modern threats.
