On Monday, May 14, The Ghislain Dufour Business ForumTM welcomed Mrs. Isabelle Melançon, Minister of Sustainable Development, the Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change (MSDEFACC). Generously granting her time, Minister Melançon made it very clear to the members of the Forum of the importance of the fiscal consolidation the Québec government has made and its positive impact on the environment.
Considering that public finances are in order, the sums devolved to the MSDEFACC have increased by 29% in the most recent budget. These means will help better support regional environmental Councils through additional funding, assisting these organizations in their need to carry out their mission.
Referring to the most recent effects of the new Environment Quality Act, the Minister reassured the business community that they will find elements of clarity, transparency and predictability engrained into future regulations, as well as aspects of flexibility that will take into account the individuality of each region. Participants welcomed the Minister’s assurances with ease.
