Consultant, Consumer Marketing and Healthcare teams

NATIONAL Public Relations’ Toronto office is looking for a passionate, innovative and multi-talented communications professional to split their time between our growing Consumer Marketing and Healthcare teams.

As a key member of both teams, the Consultant is expected to work closely with the account leads, regularly bringing strategic insights and tactical ideas to support the Firm’s clients in the consumer brand and healthcare space. This role may also see supervision and mentorship to junior staff members. Consultants at NATIONAL PR play a key role in fostering client relationships along with developing and executing communications programs through strong knowledge and application of the principles and practices of public relations.

What you will do

Collaborating with account leads and clients, you’ll work to build relationships with and deliver excellence across multiple client portfolios. In this role, you will:

  • Attend and contribute to client meetings
  • Build client relationships and trust through regular guidance and strategic counsel on current programs and broader industry trends
  • Inform program strategy and continually look for ways to maximize efforts to achieve client goals
  • Draft communications materials, news releases, media materials, paid media articles, social media content, internal and external presentations, etc.
  • Support communications campaigns, which may include message development; earned, owned and paid media activities, digital content development, event planning and execution, and other activities as needed
  • Learn about the Canadian competitive and regulatory landscape in the consumer and healthcare space, and apply this knowledge to support client communications programs
  • Build relationships with target audiences including influencers, healthcare providers, government officials, patient groups, trade and consumer media
  • Support account leads in managing program critical paths and budgets
  • Work with NATIONAL’s other practices and offices across Canada to deliver integrated communications services
  • Contribute to the Firm’s new business development initiatives

Our ideal candidate will have

  • 3 to 5 years' experience writing health and/or consumer content for the public and stakeholder audiences
  • Skills and diverse experience in planning and executing media relations programs – both earned and paid
  • Experience building compelling stories to support a brand’s business and communications objectives
  • Experience in bringing a PR campaign to life on social and digital media channels (paid and earned)
  • A background in project management and creating critical paths/workback schedules
  • Energy, curiosity and eagerness to learn and grow
  • A solutions-oriented attitude and an interest in taking on challenges
  • Strong organizational and budgeting skills, attention to detail and respect for deadlines
  • The ability to adapt to shifting timelines, client priorities and corporate cultures

Additional considerations:

  • Experience working in a public relations agency environment is an asset
  • Experience and knowledge of Canada’s consumer brand and health regulatory landscape is a major asset
  • A college or university degree or equivalent
