Employee Engagement in Tough Times

Social media is a 'game-changing' trend that is influencing the way
people connect and engage each other at work.

NATIONAL conducted in-depth interviews with communications professionals from public and private sector Canadian organizations across the energy, manufacturing, financial services, and pharmaceutical industries. Our study was designed to identify key trends, challenges and opportunities for internal communications, and to understand the role of dialogue in inspiring and engaging employees, particularly in the midst of a challenging economy.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE STUDY:

Nine out of ten communicators identified social media as the most significant trend in internal communications.

Social media provides communicators with new opportunities to re-engage multi-generational workforces, personalize communications and improve senior leadership visibility.

The challenging economy, organizational changes,
limited resources and demographic factors are prompting communicators to explore new strategies for internal communications.
