2010 Employee Engagement Program

Overview

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) was the first ever Official Airport of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Vancouver Airport Authority, which manages YVR, engaged NATIONAL in March 2009 to develop and manage its 2010 Employee Engagement Program.

Creative Solution

Building on the Airport Authority’s corporate values and on NATIONAL’s experience in developing sports and Olympic Games related sponsorship programs, NATIONAL developed a 14-month-long program with a number of activities to generate employee pride and excitement in the airport’s role in the Games. It was also designed to educate employees about the requirements for Olympic readiness, and to recognize and celebrate employees for their contribution to a gold-medal airport experience.

Impact & Results

Employee participation in the program’s activities was significant and feedback from employees was overwhelmingly positive. One of the activities—the “Summer Chill Out” employee event at the Richmond Olympic Oval—garnered NATIONAL and the Airport Authority the Best Corporate Team Building Event award at the BC Event Awards in October 2009.
