All of the Firm’s training programs—whether Firm-wide or local— are offered through The Institute.
We recognize that relevant learning activities take various forms, whether organized team sessions, self-directed initiatives or courses.
The cornerstone of our program is the individual Learning Passport, which allows employees to keep tally of their efforts and to align them with their performance goals to showcase progress.
The Institute’s professional development program includes:
FIRM-WIDE, FORMAL LEARNING
We offer ongoing Firm-wide sessions by invitation, including our Bold Thinking Speaker Series webinars; NATIONAL 101/201 face-to-face workshops for new employees and senior consultants; our signature Visionary Leadership Model training and tools; a Marketing Technology Immersion program and mandatory ethics training.
Visionary Leadership Model – All new staff receives an induction to our Visionary Leadership Model, our primary framework which guides how we navigate mandates, capitalize on resources, learn and generate superlative results. VLM ambassadors in each office regularly provide information sessions and support to help employees put the model into practice.
NATIONAL 101 is a three-day introductory session to the Firm’s values and client approach. Taught by peers, training focuses on business management and core communications skills, incorporating state-of-the-art research on the management of firms providing professional services and covering subjects of interest to all public relations practitioners, such as client expectation management, project management and business development. Each cohort draws together participants from across our offices, providing the opportunity to showcase the strength of our network of professionals and services.
NATIONAL 201 is a two-day professional development session to support our high-caliber senior client-facing leaders in becoming trusted advisors with an enhanced ability to meet the needs of existing and potential clients. Covering key skills such as listening/asserting, central question identification, conflict management and feedback, the peer-taught session involves a combination of main room plenums and demonstrations; intensive practice in team break-outs; critical thinking around a case or real-time client scenarios; and coaching. Insights lead to deeper and stronger client relationships and to improved internal team management. As with the NATIONAL 101 session, participants are drawn from across our offices to promote interoffice collaboration and networking.
MTI 2.0, our Marketing Technology Immersion program, is designed to introduce employees to the possibilities of data-driven communications through various tools and techniques that have immediate applicability in their day-to-day jobs servicing clients. Online learning is supported by experts across our network who answer questions and provide tips in real time.
LOCAL COURSE OFFERING
From lunch-and-learns, to team or practice area sessions and guest speakers, employees in each office have the opportunity to delve into a range of topics allowing for increased sharing of expertise to meet local needs and interests. Our Montreal and Toronto offices have also established formal mentoring programs to promote further leadership development.
We encourage employees to further expand their knowledge through self-directed activities such as keeping up to date with industry webinars, podcasts and readings. Our ‘Love a Little Learning’ email series has a monthly theme, highlighting pieces curated by leaders across the network.
The Firm also offers limited access to thousands of the latest business, creative and technology skills training videos designed for 24/7 desktop and mobile learning through Lynda.com, an online learning platform.
