The Qualities We Look for in Our People
We look for consultants that “fit” the unique culture of our Firm. Above and beyond being able to carry out the basic functions of the job, our people should share the values of our Firm, harmonize with our culture and add value, both in the long term as well as in the short term.
The ideal candidate has a solid academic background, with at least a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Experience in public relations and consulting is recommended. Personal qualities we’re looking for include leadership skills and entrepreneurial flair. Ideal candidates are bright, curious and interested in the world around them. They’ll need to be actively involved in their community, energetic and open-minded with regard to others’ opinions and new ideas. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated abilities in business development are fundamentals.
NATIONAL seeks to recruit professionals who match four major types of profiles: the trusted senior advisor, the high-calibre generalist, the senior consultant who specializes in a specific industry and the young professional with strong potential.
The trusted advisor
This is usually a senior consultant with an extensive network of contacts and expertise recognized by their peers and clients, who turn to him/her when important decisions have to be made.
The trusted senior/CEO advisor can influence the outcome of events and has the following characteristics:
speaks with authority;
can influence decisions;
has an extensive network of contacts; and
is esteemed by his peers.
The high-calibre generalist
Another target is the communications specialist, a person with vast experience in developing and executing communications plans.
This candidate exhibits the following characteristics:
designs and implements strategic communications plans;
is able to manage and motivate work teams;
can manage several projects concurrently;
performs well under stress; and
is familiar with public relations and communications theory and practice.
The specialized senior consultant
A senior consultant who specializes in one or more industries, such as finance, pharmaceuticals, energy, natural resources or any other major industrial sector, is also another desirable candidate profile.
This candidate’s main traits are:
recognized expertise in one or more industries and continued development of this expertise;
ability to share expertise and work with generalists; and
skills in making presentations and writing specialized articles that enhance his reputation.
The young professional with strong potential
All of our teams must also include young, well-educated professionals, with strong personal qualities and strong potential, who can take on various logistical or monitoring assignments, assume responsibility for various services and bring in new blood.
The ideal candidate has the following traits:
solid educational background;
familiarity with public relations;
desire to learn and drive to succeed;
familiarity with the workings of society and the corporate world; and
