Howard Fremeth is a Senior Consultant with the Ottawa office of NATIONAL Public Relations. He is an innovative, versatile and accomplished professional with extensive experience in government relations, public diplomacy, strategic communications, crisis communications, media relations and social media. Prior to joining NATIONAL, Howard was the Director of Communications at the Embassy of Israel in Canada. Serving during periods of crisis and sustained media attention, he successfully managed Israel’s brand while building ties with Canada in a variety of sectors from defence to cyber security, energy to water technology, aerospace to life sciences, and industrial R&D to academic research. He is a lecturer at Carleton University’s School of Journalism and Communications where he designs and teaches courses on speech writing, professional communications and digital diplomacy. Howard is a frequent commentator on how governments use social media to engage the public, key stakeholders and influencers. He is also a member of the Canadian Public Relations Society. Howard holds a PhD from Carleton University’s School of Journalism and Communications and an MA in Communications from Simon Fraser University. In 2015, he won the Freiman Family Young Leadership Award, which recognizes a member of Ottawa’s Jewish community, 40 and under, who has demonstrated proven leadership.
