Corporate Responsibility is ingrained in NATIONAL’s Toronto office, and the past 12 months have been nothing short of amazing.
We started our 2016 CR efforts by asking our Toronto colleagues what causes were important to them, so we could ensure our efforts aligned with their values. They came back to us with many worthy causes; though it was hard to choose, we made poverty alleviation our focus for 2016, hoping to maximize our impact on the community.
Following our successful participation in the Second Harvest Hero fundraising campaign – which landed us in their Top 20 Fundraisers – we capped the year by holding a Holiday Drive to benefit the 51 Division Police Station. The Toronto office banded together to collect non-perishable food items and toys to be donated to local families in need. In tandem with this, we collected warm clothes and blankets to benefit New Circles, an organization supporting Syrian refugees living in the Greater Toronto Area.
We also sent a team of volunteers to the Children’s Aid Foundation Annual Holiday Season Celebration. Our volunteers ran concession stands and games, and made sure the kids had a good time.
Looking forward to the rest of 2017, we’re excited to kick off our second annual Second Harvest Hero campaign at the beginning of March. With four teams competing to raise funds, we plan to defend our spot in the Top 20 – it’s for a good cause, after all.
